Hunger Ministry Committee

The Hunger Committee is one of the ministries of Caring and Sharing Ministries, Inc.  The Committee has members of the Caring and Sharing Board as well as the church Coordinators of Carpenter’s Table.

Carpenter’s Table is the weekly meal that is served to patrons of the food bank in Taneytown, operated by Carroll Food Sunday.  The number of meals has fluctuated but it has settled to approximately 110 each week.  The 2022 rotation calendar including Tom’s Creek Church as well as seven churches of Caring and Sharing.  Each church will be responsible for providing a meal, purchasing it from some place with a commercial kitchen.  Kennies Market will continue to provide subs which can be purchased.  As of September 15, 2022, 4,723 meals have been distributed.  Each church in rotation has been very faithful in distribution of the meals each Thursday.  Meals are distributed each Thursday from 9:15 am to 11:15 from Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church at 38 West Baltimore Street, Taneytown.

Carroll Food Sunday continues to use Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in room 103.  Caring and Sharing has purchased fresh bread to give with the Carroll Food Sunday bags.  Each week about 55 families have been served.  Churches have been faithful with the contributions of canned food, placed in the cabinet outside the back door at Trinity.

A decision about when we can resume cooking and serving inside will be made in conjunction with Health Department’s ruling about COVID and the use of the Trinity kitchen. At this point those serving Carpenter’s Table are concerned not only with cooking, serving but also with the time of the meals.  People are taking the meals as they come for food.  It does not seem wise to have folk wait until 11:30 to eat lunch, as was the practice before COVID.

The Thanksgiving meal was not provided last year, due to COVID.  In its place, an extra bag of food was distributed to 55 families on the Thursday before Thanksgiving with the turkey and fixings given by Food Sunday.  It is anticipated that the extra bag will be distributed in 2022.
